Harrisburg, the “big city” near me continues to struggle with its finances, but that has not hampered the growing community of artist that call Harrisburg area their home. As an example, on any given second and fourth Tuesday during the warm weather months you will find an artist gathering. The best way to find them is to enjoy a walk along the river front until you come to where State Street t-bones the river. An easy way to know you are there is looking down State Street you will see a great view of our state capital building. It was modeled after the Vatican and considered one of the finest capital buildings in the US; to which I add my hearty amen. Inside and out it is worth taking a stroll around. But that’s another day. Right now I’m directing you to the small plaza along the river with the capital building behind you and the Susquehanna river in front. I am sure long before you find this gathering of artist you will hear them. These artist are primarily drummers. During the halcyon Tuesdays of summer these drummers meet to share their rhythms with each other and spectators like myself. And as the sky darkens, the fire-folk appear and share their fiery art while the drums continue to share.
