Last night I was visiting a friend and he asked “do I have a blog?” my answer was , “no” but in fact I have had this blog set up for several months. However set-up and published are two different things and all day today I have considered my friend’s question. I read a lot of blogs often; but blogging? Me? I think the reason I hadn’t moved past the flirting-with-blogging stage is because of all the blogs and other websites I have read on the internet. Surely it has already been done . . . and better!
Today, because of my friend’s prompting, I have published this blog and you are probably here because you were one of the unfortunates who received an email from me saying, “look at me, look at me!” Well now you have looked and found it wanting. And you’re probably wondering what about my comment that it has been done better by others? And my simple answer is that this blog is about other people’s blogs: at least most of the time.
Stick around and you will find out I love the arts. You will also find out I love the arts through the eyes of a Christian. And if you haven’t left from boredom already you will find out I think there is a lot of art worth a Christian’s second look. The second look tells us about why we approve or disapprove of something: it is the examined life. The first look says “yes I like it” or “yuck!” but the second look asks why. It is the “why” that I find most important about art. Too often Christian’s dismiss with a thumbs up or a thumbs down without ever knowing why. And the thumb up or thumb down approach is not limited to art,but appears pervasive to how we view the people we work with, buy from and live next to. It is also the same measure we sometimes apply to the scriptures we read or even worse, the scriptures we believe.
Hmmm, from art to beliefs; is that so far a jump? Stick around and find out. I will add a link a week to the “52 Weeks-52 Links” catagory to the right, please take time to visit them and ask yourself why after passing judgment on your like or dislike of what you see and read. And expect the occasional rant found in most blogs with additional links, all done for the pleasure of asking why.
